Weekly Update

Another week has gone by, Afton will be 7 weeks old next Thursday. I can't believe it. He's getting so big and making huge strides. He is very active, kicking his legs and flailing his arms. He loves to look out of our big living room window at what's going on outside. He can now entertain himself in his crib looking at himself in the mirror and playing with the various rattles and baby toys attached to it. He also loves the sound of the vacuum and hairdryer so this is convenient for me if all I want to do is clean and fix my hair. We had a tough week as Dustin was in Edmonton for 6 days but we made the most of it. Grandpa Wendell and Uncle Slade were in town to visit and Afton went to his first midget race to watch his Uncle race. Now, I'm sure many of you think that all we do is take Afton to races but I assure you we do other things too...

Afton is getting the hang of holding his head up and his vision is getting much better and he clearly recognizes faces.

He has a big month coming up in August. Another race at Road America in Wisconsin and then Oklahoma to see more family and then Minnesota for his christening.

Mid-Ohio Pictures

First Race, Mid- Ohio 200

So its Sunday night and we made it back from our first race event, and family vacation. We traveled to Columbus, OH and spent Saturday night in a hotel. That was the easy part, we spent the day doing touristy type things and went out to dinner. 7:00AM Sunday morning the alarm went off and we prepared ourselves for a fun filled day at the Mid-Ohio Sports car course. When we arrived at 9:00AM it seemed as it was going to be a beautiful day, but as the clouds rolled in we knew we were going to have to change our plans a little. Two thunder storms came and passed but we did not let a little rain dampen our day. We ended up watching the Indy Car race from the comfort of the Honda hospitality motor coach where it was dry, and cool. Afton liked being at the track, it was his first Indy car race outside of the mommas belly, but I say it was his 6th. The noise of the engines and announcers acted as a lullaby as Afton didn't let the race interrupt his normal routine of sleeping eating and sleeping. Afton got to meet a lot of people for the first time in person, and it was nice to show him off a bit. Mom, Dad, and son all had a good weekend, and you can be sure that the Mid-Ohio 200 was the first, but certainly not the last race that we will be attending together as a family.

4th of July and Friends

I know it's been awhile since we've posted...sorry. Just got the internet working at the house so we don't have to go up the street to Panera Bread.

What's New:

Afton has found his voice...he makes random shrieks and screams that I think sound like a baby pterodactyl. He's now sleeping for...drum roll please... 2 hours at a time during the night! Yeah, so I am still pretty tired but it's more predictable now. Afton is gaining weight at an astounding rate...he had some catching up to do and he's out of his preemie clothes. He's loving his baby Einstein play mat and his first real bath went off without a hitch!

It was his first 4th of July and he slept through the fireworks...not that he could have seen that far away anyhow :) but the kid isn't bothered by loud noises! I think it was all that time spent in pit lane in the womb...

He met his first girlfriend, Matilda, and first mate, Oscar all in the same week. Matilda is 5 weeks older than he is and Oscar is 4 weeks older.

I think Afton and I may be coming to Oklahoma in about 2 weeks while Dustin goes to Edmonton so I'll keep all of you Okies posted!
